The Cleveland Cavaliers have come to an agreement with versatile, veteran Shawn Marion. This is another big time signing by the Cavaliers seeing how the Kevin Love trade has yet to be finalized.
Shawn Marion brings the Cavs rebounding and defense; something Cleveland will desperately need this year with all the offensive firepower they have.
Marion also brings championship experience and I think he will be one of the five players on the court for the Cavaliers when it comes to closing out games in the playoffs. He won a Championship with the 2011 Dallas Mavericks against the Miami Heat. His role on that team was to guard LeBron James (of which he did an excellent job), bring energy to the games and also provide toughness; and all of this he will bring to the Cavs in 2015.
I expect Marion to be the enforcer for the Cavs and really embrace his tough guy role, as he becomes the guy asked to do the dirty work when “Mr. Dirty Work” himself Anderson Verajo comes out of the game.
Marion will be a key factor when the Cavs play the Chicago Bulls. He will most likely be asked to defend Bulls sixth man Taj Gibson; and, if Shawn can slow down Gibson then it will be a huge victory for the Cavs as I see no one on their roster that could have stopped Taj Gibson until this signing of the matrix.
Only time will tell if Shawn Marion is the defensive stopper the Cavs need to be successful in the post season.
